Casting: Two Roles for Drowning in the sound
Casting Opportunity
Role B: Therapist / Interviewer / Director
This role is a representation of “Alex”’s Therapist and “Sarah”’s Interviewer delivered by listening to, and then repeating, the contents of the interviews and therapy sessions via headphones. This role is also a representation of Andrew Lee the project leader of Drowning in the Sound, as he provides contextual information, personal anecdote, and biography to the proceedings, these moments are delivered in the same way as the above.
* The Director is a representation of Andrew Lee, the real project leader, played by someone else.
Role A: Sarah*, Female, open to non-binary and women-presenting persons.
Sarah is an eighteen-year-old university undergraduate and survivor of sexual grooming by a teacher at her college. In this role, you would not be playing “Sarah” but representing her voice on stage. There are moments where the representation ceases, and the actor representing her, you, is all that remains. The performance is delivered by listening to and then repeating the contents of the interviews via headphones.
* Sarah is a pseudonym for a real person, all care and caution should be undertaken when approaching this role. It is not about performance but embodiment.
Audition Process
We understand your time is valuable, and we will not be expected to put too much time into an audition. We are not interested in you delivering your audition word perfectly; we are looking for energy and a connection to the material. You should only learn the script when we’re paying you to do so! The process will be as follows:
1) Part one will be an expression of interest emailed to the company. (See the bottom of this page)
2) We will supply an audio track from one sequence of the production, which the performer would need to perform via a self-tape.
3) If you know someone in the company or have worked with us before, we need you to let us know beforehand. This will allow us to outsource audition decisions to someone unfamiliar with you.
4) We will get back to you within a week of the cut-off date (December 205h) with our decision. We will inform everyone who did not get the role first via email, followed by the successful party.
5) We will always deliver feedback on your audition if you request it. It may take us some time, but that is our commitment to you.
Additional Information: Because of the recordings used in the show successful performers will be required to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA)

Access Overview
The Florists are an Access Need First organisation, and we welcome anyone and everyone to apply for our roles. Sometimes, roles require a specific person. As we write our productions, this is rare, but please do pay attention to the pronouns of our roles as they will indicate what may be suitable for you. Please note we will always accept trans and non-binary performers to audition for a role that fits with their gender identity and expression.
We also welcome individuals with complex disabilities or access needs and will engage in conversation with those applicants to make sure we are doing what we need to do to help you access our work. Sometimes, unfortunately, we may not have the finances involved to support certain individuals (translators, for example), and in these situations, we want to reaffirm our commitment that in the future, it is our priority to allocate funds for these instances.
Emotional Support:
Our work is challenging. We want to create an environment where our artists can flourish. There can be no fixed system for this, and it will be an evolving framework based on those in the room. We will engage with you at the start of the process to manage the best way to support each other through the work that we do.
Expressions of Interest
We are seeking expressions of interest. If you are interested in one of the above roles please email us at: Hello@wearethemidnightflorists.org. If you would like to explore some of our past work then please visit our website www.wearethemidnightflorists.org
